Workshop on Music Journalism with Lucia Udvardyova and Thomas Venker

Date: May 3rd, 2024
Facilitator: Lucia Udvardyova and Thomas Venker
Topic: Music Journalism

The EM GUIDE project hosts 14 internal workshops. These workshops are meant to help the project staff, and occasionally other contributors of the network, to acquire, improve, and exchange skills and knowledge relevant to the participating magazines and/or the network itself.

The workshop Music Journalism was held by the founders and editors of two different magazines within the EM GUIDE network, namely Easterndaze and Kaput. While Kaput is based in Cologne, Germany, and deals with a wide range of cultural aspects from the underground to the mainstream worldwide, Easterndaze has no fixed residence and is dedicated to focusing on underground music in Central and Eastern Europe. The duality of these two entities was reflected in the structure of the workshop, which consisted of three parts:

- The history and current situation of music journalism in the US, UK, and Germany.

- The history and current situation of music journalism in Central and Eastern Europe.

- Discussion with the participants on the current challenges and prospects of the network members.
